About Violet Wands

What are Violet Wands?

Violet Wands are essentially electro-medical devices used to treat a whole range of ailments. You turn it on, it starts buzzing and the glass electrode in the wand-handle starts glowing violet.
When the glass electrode is placed near or next to the skin, a mild to intense prickly sensation can be felt as this energy is discharged around the body.
There is a whole range of available wierd and wonderfull glas electrodes, designed for treatment of different ailments and for different bodyparts.

Violet Wand devices were invented and mainly manufactured in Eastern-Germany and were particularly popular in the 1920`s and 1930`s.
Some of these German manufacturers: Helios, Radiostat/Radiolux, Horus, Frequenta, Phönix, Haider, Tefra, Ofra, Hegrosan, Vox, Norisan, Pansanitor, Ultrasol, Medikus, Teslazon, Kosmosan, Qualitas, Provita, Reicostat, Felma, Mediosan, Radiolux, Velmag, Elektrosan, Philantrop, Anapol, Wohlmuth, QuarzLampe Linz, Gral, Ultrastat, Radiosol, Duplosan, Velmag.

vv

The earliest violet Wand devices were in black or brown cases with velvet interior linings, starting from the 1950`s the colours brightened and the cases were in pvc.
Despite the extras of some devices, the functionality of them is more or less the same.
Today they are still made, although mostly for cosmetic purposes and these in particular lack the power of the older ones. The more powerful ones are also still made, but they are very expensive and you will get less glas electrodes for your money.

With every Violet Wand you get the following:
- a control unit with an adjustable power knob (sometimes 2) which produces a
   high frequency alternating current.
- a violet wand handle which steps up this voltage to 30.000 - 50.000 Volt.
- a collection of glass electrodes which glow violet (sometimes orange/red)
- all of these arranged in a case.
*Occasionally there come some extras, like an adjustable power knob on the  wand handle or a mirror in the case.

They output to the recipient:
- high frequency
- high voltage
- low energy
- electric current

Which does:
- make a loud buzzing sound when turned on.
- makes the glass electrode glow violet, its ionizing the near vacume which
exists in the glass electrodes interior.
- it causes sparks jumping across small gaps making contact to the skins
   surface, which is very visual.
- this high frequency current travels around the surface of the body, so it does
not fry any interior part of the body. This is a very specific attribute of
   high frequency currents.

The sensations they create depend on how they are used:
- at low power, slightly warm or prickly
- at high power, more of the above
- in firm contact with the skin, mostly warmth
- with a small gap between glass electrode and skin, mostly prickly

The glass electrodes which are:
- big and round, mild
- small and round, moderate
- multiple contact points, moderate "Comb Rake electrode"
- small and pointed, intense
- with a metal plate or wire in them, more intense
- with a single wire in the tip, very intense "Fulgurations electrode"

Whichever you prefer is simply a matter of taste (not to be discussed).
Violet Wands may look different and be large or small, but they all operate in more or less the same way and have similar power outputs.

Violet Wand devices are designed to use on people, to treat ailments, so thankfully their power output lies within certain scientifical parameters which were considered safe and acceptable for the time.
They were promoted by several wellknown and established scientists and senior fellows, even scientific-medical books were written about them.

Violet Wand devices also come in a wide variety of designs and added extras. As you can imagine when you realise Violet Wands meanwhile have been made over a span of several generations.
They are now mostly bought by collectors of medical and scientific devices and there are some very rare and beautifully made Violet Wand sets, which are highly priced. Likewise, some of the glass electrodes to are very rare and by today`s terms, to costly to make and therefore very desirable.
However there is still a German company named "Tefra" who still manufactures a certain range of glass electrodes. However, don`t panic if you hear the price, you have been warned.

At the moment there is also a quite growing interest by the
BDSM-Fetish community for these Violet Wands. It is quite evident that there exist some very good reasons to use these very interesting, effective and titillation devices to enrich the erotic experiences.
Here they require a device which is reliable, safe to use and brings lots of fun.

We personally, as the webmasters of this site, can only fully subscribe this, as we are ourselves very dedicated to BDSM and so add an extra dimension to our eroticplay by using a Violet Wand.

For promotors of BDSM-events we can offer to arrange a demonstration of Violet Wand devices.
